Having a Party? You Need Some Candy

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Ken Shenkman Being in the candy business, I often come across people who are interested in using candy as a theme or decoration for a special occasion. Be it a wedding, birthday party, sweet sixteen, baby shower, bar/bat mitzvah or any kind of event adding candy adds an extra bit of goodness. Are you interested in sweetening up your next gathering? Here are six great reasons to include candy on the guest list. Color choices - No matter what your color scheme, you can find candy to match. Need red? Try Red Hots , Hot Tamales or Very Cherry Jelly Bellys. Are Pink and brown your colors? Try chocolate-raspberry saltwater taffy. Need some light blue? Cotton candy flavored rock candy or some Berry Blue Jelly Bellys may help. Yellow the “in” color this year? Try banana runts. Need pink or blue for a baby shower? Cotton candy candy sticks should do the trick. The possibilities are virtually endless.Theme Choices - Most people would be amazed at the variety of shapes and “themes” available in candy today. Traditional party shaped candies might include flower lollipops and It’s a Boy/Girl bubblegum cigars. Having a party with a beach theme? Why not throw some gummy sharks in a bag and have them chase around some Swedish Fish. Or grab some tropical fish lollipops. What about that Fear Factor part you were thinking about. No problem. Candy manufacturers love making gross looking, sounding and tasting candy. Consider Big Burp, a candy with a dispenser that burps, or Hose Nose, where you squeeze green goo out of fake nose onto your tongue (their motto is, “It’ snot what you think”). Need some sour power? Try Toxic waste or Zotz. For those who want a real “creepy” experience, sink your teeth into some insect candy. You can’t go wrong with sour cream and onion crickets or scorpion brittle. Having a character party? No problem. Most popular kids movies and TV characters now have their very own candy counterparts. From Hello Kitty marshmallow pops, to Spongebob ring pops, to Disney Princess pez and Spiderman Giant Pez, almost everyone is available in candy. What if you want the star of the party to be the sweetest person there? No problem, you can have their picture put on chocolate! Universal Appeal-I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy some kind of candy. Sweets are one of those rare items that cut across gender, race, generation, culture, or any of the dozens of other “gaps” that separate people. I have had the pleasure of watching a parent or grandparent introduce a piece of nostalgic candy, such as Necco Wafers or wax bottles, to a child many times. I have witnessed peoples’ faces light up as they discovered that their favorite candy is available in sugar free. I’ve been delighted to acquaint visitors from other countries with some of our unique specialties. We have a candy cart that we bring to many special events Rarely is it just the children who come to get something to eat! Everybody has a favorite candy!Economical- Often you can purchase candy to use as decorations for the same or less money than you would spend on traditional decorations. Bulk candy items scattered around a table make for a tasty design, without a lot of expense. You’ll also save a lot of time on clean up. People don’t leave a lot of decorations laying around when they’re this good. The final reason to think about making candy a part of your next party is the simplest and the most powerful. Candy is fun! Let’s face it, which is more fun, a streamer or a strawberry gummy? A banner or a bunch of chocolates? Candy has a way of putting a smile on peoples’ faces, and isn’t that what it’s all about? Ken Shenkman Ph.D. is an owner of Bulk Candy Store, one of the largest online candy stores and the only one that visits fairs and festivals all over the U.S. He is fond of using candy as a decorating tool and does so often for parties all over the country. Beach Wedding Favors

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Kevin Stith Wedding favors have become a necessary part of wedding planning. Wedding favors are small gifts from the bride and the groom to their guests during a wedding ceremony. Wedding favors express the gratitude of the couple. They are memorable mementos to be kept by the guests. Wedding ceremonies are based on different themes depending on culture, interest, budget, imagination or seasons. Weddings with a beach theme have natural beauty, mystique and elegance and the guests who attend them will have an exhilarating experience. This in itself is a favor. Beach wedding favors can express the vastness and beauty of the beach. There are different categories of beach wedding favors. Sliver beach wedding favors are elegant and classic with silver coasters, wine stoppers, wine-bottle openers as unique beach wedding favors. Edible beach wedding favors include personalized candy bars and cookies. Cinderella beach wedding favors including glass slipper key chains, pumpkin -shaped candles, decorative soaps and pumpkin paperweights are added to beach weddings. Home made beach wedding favors allow the couple to give unique personalized favors to their guests which can be easy to make and inexpensive. They can add a personal touch to the entire wedding ceremony. Most common personalized beach wedding favors are playing cards. Champagne glasses, soaps, paperweights, picture frames based on the beach themes can be used as personalized wedding favors also. One of the common beach wedding favors is seashell wedding favor which covers seashell coffee scoops, sea shell toothpicks, shell mint packs, etc. Other favors are beach themed coffee favors, beach sand pails, sand castles, flip flop candle favors, dolphin shaped wine stoppers, dolphin-shaped bottle openers, shell candle favors, beach chocolates and cookies. Miniature models of lighthouses, beach chairs, yachts and sailboats can be given as beach wedding favors. Prices of these beach wedding favors are from 1$ to 5$ and they vary with the materials used. Beach wedding favors can be considered as blessings from the sea to the guests as well as the couple. Pre-Nuptial Agreements and Divorce

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Sue Taylor There are definite advantages in having a pre-nuptial agreement in place, particularly if one of the partners is already very wealthy and has earned that money without the help of their fiance. It can also be protection if one of the partners comes from a wealthy family and divorce could harm the family fortune. If you are totally honest from the start, have planned ahead and are able to convey that the one you love will be provided with a comfortable lifestyle, the issue of a pre-nuptial agreement should not come as a shock Although a pre-nuptial agreement is definitely a sensible option in some circumstances, it is worth considering the emotional cost. Imagine from your partner’s point of view, you are in love and without warning your partner asks you to sign a contract stating what you will or won’t get out of the marriage in the case of divorce. In many cases, there will be feelings of hurt, betrayal and perhaps a sense of being unworthy. If you have been honest from the beginning, there should not be this sense of shock and hurt. Is this a good way to start a successful marriage? Well possibly not. However the fact remains that it can be important, for many reasons, for the wealthy partner to protect their assets. There is also the unfortunate reality that there are a lot of gold diggers out there and harsh as it may sound, a pre-nuptial agreement can be a good way of determining whether your partner wants to marry you or your wealth. The issue is how to bring up the idea of a pre-nuptial agreement without harming your relationship. You will need to explain that either you or your family, have been very successful in the past and that those assets need to be protected. At the same time it is important to point out that anything that is made or acquired from the date of the marriage whilst you are a couple will be shared. It may be prudent to encourage your future spouse to have their own pre-nuptial drawn up in the spirit of being fair and equitable. The downside of pre-nuptials is that they bring up the possibility of divorce before you are even married. This can put doubt in the mind and a feeling of perhaps bringing misfortune on the impending marriage. At a time when romance and excitement ought to be the order of the day, it can be a real dampener. However you decide to handle it, it is worth remembering that pre-nuptial agreements are a sensitive issue. What makes good financial sense to you may be seen as a slap in the face by your prospective marriage partner. If things are communicated well right from the start, everything will proceed smoothly in the lead up to the marriage and hopefully beyond. The Healing Arts: 18 Things Healers Learn, #6; You’re a Vehicle on Their Path

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Russ Reina This, perhaps of all the principles that are being discussed, is the most exasperating to deal with. Western medicine (for wont of a better description) presents itself as the path, as opposed to a path. The individual in need enters a system that, to a large extent, negates the whole system that is a person. Any medical modality that focuses on symptoms and their control and loses touch with the person as a whole whose system is as much under the direction of psychological, emotional, and spiritual factors as any physical expressions of dis-order essentially deprives individuals of the perspective so necessary to achieve and maintain their own health and happiness. The power of healing is, for the most part, in the hands of the individual. Of course most practitioners do say that, but then its and be sure to take this three times a day with meals, it will reduce your discomfort. The culture of typical medical modalities revolves around the practitioner and tools being the hub of the healing process; an outer source for the cure. The healer who understands the power of intent also, at some point, must recognize that he or she does not have all the answers. Intent is more about how a desired outcome feels rather than the specifics of how it occurs. The more you work with intent, the closer you come to understand that the best you can do is offer your skills and experience as a gift to the individual, to use or not as he pleases, in the way that he sees fit. Experience shows that people will heal themselves through the most unusual methods. Who is the practitioner amongst us who has not been completely floored by how a patient will identify and utilize an obscure, if not seemingly contradictory approach that does the trick? Healers deal with the moment, and the effectiveness of that moment can only be determined within the context of the scope of the others whole life. The healer only gets a very, very finite glimpse into that life. The real reason were there, in that moment, with that person, is often for a purpose that well never get to understand. Yes, it often appears were there to reduce suffering or to alleviate distress, yet can we really count on knowing how the ripples from the pebble we are affect the persons life as a whole? By being fixated on one method or approach, and working under the assumption that if used a certain way it will be effective in a certain way, we replace the amazing miracle of the scope of healing with a form of certainty that just doesnt exist. Without incorporating a sense of the individual and their relationship with their own health AND the modality offered, we take away an element of dignity that is so essential to the healing process. Predicting how what you offer will affect the situation beforehand is almost counter-productive to the task in front of you, which is to be an agent of healing: To be an agent of healing means being open to the power of healing to work through you as it chooses to express itself. Healers recognize that there are tools that produce specific results, but most important is how they offer those tools. Are they offered as a sure-fire cure, or are they offered as ends toward a form of personal empowerment for the recipient that leads toward increased vitality? There is a difference, and it is important for the healer to be open enough to see it. A constant source of frustration for most of us can be found in our holding on to the idea that what we have to offer will produce a desired, predictable result. The more resistance we encounter and lets face it, theres tons of that going around the harder and colder and more insulated we become. The truth is, the more we fixate on the resistance and do battle with it, the less likely are we to notice just how wise is the individual with whom were dealing, and how strong a force is healing. The most important part is to be there for the moment as it unfolds, on the moments terms. The more you fixate on a specific desired outcome, the less likely you will be able to recognize when tides are shifting toward an even better route that may produce a more meaningful turn of events in the life of the person with whom youre working. In its essence, its simply a matter of letting go and being open to the possibilities. You do what you can and let go of any investment you may have in an outcome that makes sense to you. Recognize and acknowledge that your role, no matter how much or little time it consumes, constitutes nothing more than a temporary intersection with the life of the other. You are together for only a flash of time, and then, that persons only job is to get on with the life shes been given. By all means, be the best vehicle you can to transport that person to her next phase. And then, grant her the freedom to use what youve offered in any way she sees fit. In the scope of her life, you are simply a temporary tool. Russ Reina shares over 35 years of experience in the healing arts through his web site http://mauihealingartist.com. How To Save Your Marriage

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Tim Lee Two people vow to love each other and to take good care of each other no matter what the cost, in sickness and in health, till death to they part. But when the going gets too rough to handle, how can two people save their marriage? Better yet, can a broken marriage still be saved? It is a wonder how a beautiful and ideal marriage can turn sour in a matter of years, some even just a matter of months. It could be that these two people got married hurriedly without getting to know each other well. For some, there is just no way for them to be together in marriage. Most marriages experience difficulty because of lack of communication between spouses. Sometimes, spouses have become too familiar with each other that they live together without taking the time to know the other’s feelings. Sometimes, marital obligations become so heavy and time-consuming that a day goes by without the spouses talking to each other. There are spouses who have become so familiar with each other that they have forgotten that they are still two different people who need to respect the other for their individual qualities. Sometimes, the basic niceties like thank you and please or excuse me are forgotten as couples live their lives together. Too much familiarity with each other can sometimes ruin a marriage. Some married people disregard their spouses just because they are already married and they think that there is no need to woo the other. This is a wrong notion of marriage because the wooing should not at the altar. When to know when the marriage needs fixing Most often, couples have become used to ignoring each other and living with each other physically without the emotional connection that it is already difficult to see the signs of a problematic marriage. So how do couples know that they are falling apart and their marriage needs to be looked into? When two people who used to have fun together stop laughing at and with each other, then they should stop and look at what they have. Do they still have a relationship or has it been ruined by the challenges faced by married couples as they go through life everyday? The first sign of an ailing marriage is when the spouses no longer have fun with each other. It is understand able for spouses to go about their daily tasks especially when they have children to feed and take care of. However, when weeks pass and you are no longer aware of how the other is doing and you no longer exchange knowing glances, then you have a troubled marriage that needs to be saved. One way of dealing with an ailing marriage is to open your communication lines. No matter what the problem is, you can still solve your marriage if you talk and listen to each other. However, the spouses have to decide for themselves first whether they want to save the marriage or to just let it go. Saving a marriage is not easy. In fact, it is easily said than done. This is particularly true if the spouses have already caused so much damage to the marriage and they have hurt each other’s feelings beyond repair. That is why to save a marriage, it is important that both parties be willing to address the problem and to sacrifice and solve the cause of the problem. Interesting Facts on Cross Stitch Embroidery

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Shikha Deepak What exactly is cross stitch embroidery : Cross-stitch is one of the oldest forms of embroidery and is famous amongst enthusiasts across the world. Many folk museums show examples of clothing decorated with cross-stitch, especially from continental Europe and Asia. Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches are used to form a picture. There are two different stitching techniques commonly used in Cross Stitch Embroidery. The first, the “stab” method, is used by most beginning stitchers. The stab method involves moving the hand back and forth from the front of the fabric to the back of the fabric. The needle is “stabbed” into the front of the fabric, left there, and then pulled through from the other side. The second, the “Sewing” method is a favourite of stitchers who prefer to hold the fabric in the hand instead of hoop. Each stitch technique has unique characteristics. The stab method is effective when using a hoop or frame. The stab method of stitching does not distort the fabric. It is easy to make certain that the stitch is placed properly. In the sewing method, the stitcher’s hand and needle stay on top of the fabric, except when securing floss. The needle scoops under the weave of the fabric. Since this requires practice, the sewing method is not the best for beginners. It is more difficult to ensure stitch placement, and the fabric can be distorted by the scooping motion. For more experienced stitchers, this sewing technique is preferred for some projects because a hoop is not required and the speed is considerably faster. Some forms of Cross Stitch : Here we introduce you to some of the common and famous forms of cross stitch :Counted cross-stitch is unique since this involves actual counting of each of the stitches. Cross-stitch is done on designs printed on the canvas, showing every single cross (stamped cross-stitch).” Two-dimensional (unshaded) cross-stitch in floral and geometric patterns, usually worked in black and red cotton floss on linen, is characteristic of folk embroidery in Eastern and Central Europe. Multicoloured, shaded, painting-like patterns as we know them today are a recent development, deriving from similar shaded patterns of Berlin wool work of the mid-nineteenth century Cross-stitch is the most popular form of hobby embroidery in the western world. It lends itself well to recreational use, as it is easy to learn and very versatile. In the United States, the earliest known cross-stitch sampler is currently housed at Pilgrim Hall in Plymouth, Massachusetts (Pilgrim Hall). The sampler was created by Loara Standish, the daughter of Captain Myles Standish, circa 1653. Traditionally, cross-stitch was used to embellish items like dishcloths, household linens, and doilies (only a small portion of which would actually be embroidered). Although there are many cross-stitchers who still employ it in this fashion, especially in Europe, it is now more popular to simply embroider plain pieces of canvas and hang them on the wall for decoration. There are many cross-stitching “guilds” across the United States and Europe which offer classes, collaborate on large projects, stitch for charity, and provide other ways for local cross-stitchers to get to know one another. Men, Learn How to Really Kiss a Women!

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Maurice Tate Have you ever asked 10 women how they really like to be kissed. I did this the other week and was surprised about the feedback. One of the most valuable things I have learnt in kissing is to first check out if she really wants one! I do a few things to check this out. I observe my dates body language and see if she is facing me, exposing a leg or touching her hair etc. Once you get a feeling that your date could be interested in kissing you, I like to touch her hair lightly and say, you have great hair. Maybe then I very lightly run my fingers up the back of her hair. Women love a very light touch on any part of their bodies. Eye contact is very important. This brings you closer together and more intimacy develops. The eyes bring presence and energy to the relationship. When I touch, I like to be very present in my hand and enjoy the touch inside myself. I do not touch to turn her on as she will pick up on this. If I feel energy in touching she will pick this up and respond too. Another thing I do sometimes is to touch her face very lightly and look into her eyes. I lightly grab her hair and pull slightly. I have had women dissolve from doing this. Women like you to take the lead. This shows you are a confident man. Wussy behaviour is to ask for a kiss. Please visit my site www.bodyecstatic.com for more tips on kissing. So hopefully the stage is set now for a kiss. Start gently with no tongue and then stop kissing her and pull away. This is a great tease and lets the women know you are in control and not needy. Wait till she really wants your tongue inside and no sloppy kisses please. Most men try to use their tongue too soon and I have talk to many women about this and they hate it. Another turn off is sloppy kisses. Women really hate this. Bad breath is another real turn off. Clean your teach before dating and use a mouth wash and tongue scraper. What food you eat can also influence your breath. Garlic is a no no. Gentle and soft is best to start. Talk again and then kiss and she will respond more. Tease her again and sometimes she will get so turned on she will grab you and want to take you to bed. Have fun with your next kiss. Delaying Gratification For Long-Range Objectives - Huh?

Monday, April 7th, 2008

By Cathy Leman In short, the title of this article is simply describing what most people have an extremely difficult time doing keeping at bay the short-term feel-goodness of instant gratification in order to achieve a goal. In other words, think retirement. If you spent every single penny you earned on things that made you instantly happy, a long-range goal of retiring would be out of reach (barring a windfall of cash from a long-lost relative or winning the lottery). Now apply that to setting goals for weight loss or eating healthier. If you have to eat a hot fudge sundae every time you pass an ice cream shop because you feel you deserve it or it will instantly make you feel better, your chances of losing weight are decreased. If you feel that lounging on the sofa every night vs. going for a walk will make you feel better, your chances of getting into shape are decreased. However, at the same time that you engage in these goal-destroying behaviors and habits, you carry around the notion that you want to lose XX number of pounds, or tone up and get stronger. How in the world will that happen if you cant reach your long-term goal? By setting short-term goals. Rather than ordering that hot fudge sundae every week, set a goal of cutting down to once per month. Rather than sitting on the sofa EVERY night, set a goal of walking 3 evenings. These are interim, short-term goals that move you specifically toward a long-term goal. And yes, they involve delayed gratification. The gratification comes when that snug pair of pants now has breathing room, or you lift the blow dryer to do your hair and see your bicep pop out! See? Its easy once you practice. Now, whats your short-term goal for this week? And what can you push aside in order to reap a later, healthy reward? Mosquito Repellent

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

By Kent Pinkerton The best way to protect your surroundings, home and family from mosquitos is the use of the mosquito repellent. They come in varied forms and is a matter of personal choice. However, when purchasing mosquito repellents one should ensure that in contains certain ingredients that do the task of keeping away these pests. The best of and most effective mosquito repellent contain DEET, which is a chemical that functions as an active repellent for insects. This chemical had been created primarily to be applied on the skin or on the clothes. Amongst the other ingredients are oil extracts from the catnip plant, nepetalactone, citronella and eucalyptus oil extract. Repellents may contain all these, or a combination of only some of them. Apart from the chemical mosquito repellant an ideal means of warding away these flying creatures is by keeping the air in motion in a room or on the outdoors. The mosquitos cannot tolerate moving air, and keeping the fan on or fanning oneself while on the move would prevent the mosquito bites. It may happen that certain family member maybe chronically allergic to some ingredient or the other in the mosquito repellant. In such circumstances one can grow certain plants that naturally ward of the buzzing long-legged flies. These include wormwood, sagewort, lemon balm, lemon grass, lemon thyme and Pelargonium. However, according to many these plants are effective only when their leaves are crushed and spread around. Amongst the synthetically created mosquito repellant there are various types that serve a common purpose. It is all about convenience and choice. So, while the sprays have been in popular use, there are repellant creams and lotions, the nets and electric mats, the ultrasonic devices, incense sticks and coils, as well as the insect zappers. While selecting the mosquito repellant it is vital to choose one that is friendly with each member of the household. After all in keeping away these insects you do not need further complications arising.
